Top-of-page notification bars convert

Pop-ups interrupt. Notification bars inform. That's why a simple bar at the top of the page often outperforms a modal that takes over the screen.

A notification bar is a thin strip, usually 40-50px tall, that sits at the very top of the page. It contains one short message and one link or button. "Free shipping over $50. Shop now." Or "New: We just launched dark mode. Try it."

The bar works because it's visible without being disruptive. Users see it without losing their place. They can ignore it without closing anything. And because it persists across pages, it gets multiple impressions without repeated interruption.

What to put in it: your single most important message right now. A sale, a new feature, a limited offer, or a lead magnet. One thing. Not three rotating messages. Not a paragraph. One line.

What not to do: make it unclosable, use it for cookie consent and a promotion at the same time, or stack multiple bars. One bar, one message, one action. Keep it sticky on scroll if the message is important. Let users dismiss it if they're not interested.

Try this

Add a single notification bar with your most important current message. One line, one action. Test it against your pop-up for the same offer.
