Anchor links reduce bounce on long pages

A long page without anchor links is a commitment. The visitor sees a wall of content and has to decide whether to scroll through all of it to find the part they care about. Many decide it's not worth it.

A mini table of contents at the top changes the dynamic. "1. Pricing 2. Features 3. How it works 4. FAQ" - now the visitor knows what's below and can jump directly to it. The page feels organized, not overwhelming.

This reduces bounce rate because visitors self-select into the content that's relevant to them. Someone who only cares about pricing jumps there immediately. Without anchors, they'd have to scroll through features and how-it-works to find it. Some would, most wouldn't.

Google also values anchor links for SEO. They sometimes generate sitelinks in search results, giving your page more visual real estate on the results page. The same page can appear with direct links to its sections, increasing click-through rate from search.

Try this

If any page on your site is longer than 3 scroll heights, add a table of contents with anchor links at the top. Measure bounce rate before and after.
